Huntsville Airport Public Waiting

Year Completed: 2009
Project Size: 240,000 Sqft

After developing a Twenty-Year Master Plan and responding to new TSA requirements after 9/11, the airport realized a great need for new public waiting and security checkpoint space.  This project quadrupled the previous space allocated for these functions.  The public waiting spaces, as well as, security checkpoint space include a forty foot high structural glass wall allowing passengers prime views of the arriving and departing planes.

This project also includes major upgrades and renovations to the 40 year old terminal building including new restrooms, gift shop, food and beverage facilities.  The $18m project, completed in mid 2009, provides adequate space for normal growth until 2022.

This iconic design won a Merit Award for the North Alabama Chapter of the American Institute of Architects in 2010.
