Huntsville Hospital Main - NICU
Year Completed: 2004
As part of Huntsville Hospital’s conversion of their East campus to a Women’s and Children’s facility, Chapman Sisson Architects re-designed a large portion of the third floor Wing into a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The new NICU contains 45 beds, as required to accommodate Huntsville Hospital's large neonatal volume. This unit is designed to provide independent environmental control to meet the individual needs of the infant, while maintaining an open plan to facilitate staff monitoring. This was accomplished by grouping the headwall units in banks of four in the shape of pinwheels, which afford each station visual, acoustical, and environmental privacy that benefits the young patients.
